Meatballs with Rice

Meatballs with Rice

Great as a meal, snack, or hors d'oeuvres.


Makes 6 servings.


1 pound lean ground beef or chuck

1/2 cup cracker crumbs

1/2 cup milk

1 egg

3 tablespoons minced onion

1 - 1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon basil

1/4 teaspoon savory, optional

3 tablespoons flour

1 teaspoon paprika

1 - 28 ounce can whole tomatoes, undrained

1/2 cup sliced onion

1 tsp salt

1 cup raw rice


In mixing bowl, combine ground beef, cracker crumbs, milk, egg, minced onion, salt, basil, and savory. Shape into twelve meatballs. Combine flour and paprika: roll meatballs in mixture.

Place pot on base. Place tomatoes in pot and break up with spoon to cover bottom of pot. Add onions and salt. Place meatballs on top of onions. Cover and simmer at Setting #3 1/3 for 5 to 7 hours. One hour before serving add rice, stir to bottom of pot. Keep warm for serving at Setting #2
