Allow at least one minute per cup.
We recommend using 1 tablespoon of automatic drip or “all grind” coffee for each cup being made.
There may be a build up of lime or mineral deposits forming inside the coffeemaker. These deposits should be removed once a month if used daily. More frequent cleaning may be necessary if your water is very hard. Mineral deposits can build up over time causing lengthy brew times and a decrease in flavor of your coffee.
- Put a paper filter in the basket- do not add coffee.
- Fill the carafe half full with white distilled vinegar. Pour the vinegar into the water reservoir. Place the covered carafe on the keep warm plate. Plug the coffeemaker in and turn on.
- Allow vinegar to cycle into the carafe. When it is finished brewing, turn off the coffeemaker and let it cool down. Discard vinegar.
- Fill the carafe with cold water to the maximum cup level and pour into the reservoir. Turn on and let the water cycle into the carafe. Turn off and allow to cool before washing the carafe and basket.
The oily film is caused by natural coffee oils contained in coffee beans. The oils are made of fatty acids and are somewhat soluble in water. The calcium in hard water will bind to these fatty acids and make them more visible, so the harder the water, the more oils may be visible in your coffee. The grade of the coffee and the way it is roasted can also affect whether the oils are visible in your coffee.
